Buffalo Boulders Youth Squad

Starting Term 1, 2026

The Buffalo Boulders Youth Squad is a structured, weekly climbing program for young people aged 5–17, designed to build skills, confidence, and connection through climbing.

With small group sizes, targeted coaching, and a strong focus on safety, Youth Squad provides a welcoming and supportive environment for kids to learn, move, and grow, whether they’re brand new to climbing or already love spending time on the wall.

Program Overview

Youth Squad is about more than just climbing harder. Our program focuses on:

  • Skill development through age-appropriate coaching

  • Confidence and resilience built through movement and problem-solving

  • Community and teamwork in a supportive group environment

  • Enjoyment of climbing as a lifelong activity

Sessions are structured, fun, and inclusive, with coaching tailored to each age group and ability level.

Age Groups & Structure

Youth Squad runs in multiple age-based groups:

  • Ages 5–9

  • Ages 10–13

  • Ages 14–17

There are no ability prerequisites for joining. The program is beginner-friendly, and no prior climbing experience is required. We will cater the coachin style and content to the ages and skill level of each participant.

Trial sessions are not required, but families are welcome to book a trial to see if the program is the right fit.

Schedule & Term Details

  • Start: Term 1, 2026 - Thursday 29th January

    (Victorian school term dates)

  • Sessions: 1 session per week

  • Day: Thursday

  • Session length: 45 minutes

  • Times:

    • Ages 5–9 - 4:15-5pm

    • Ages 10–13 - 5:15-6pm

    • Ages 14–17 - 6:15-7pm

  • Runs during: School terms only

Coaching & Supervision

Youth Squad sessions are coached by the Buffalo Boulders gym owners, following a professionally written coaching program designed specifically for youth climbers.

Coaching focuses on:

  • Safety and correct movement

  • Fundamental climbing technique

  • Age-appropriate strength and conditioning

  • Confidence, resilience, and positive mindset

Coach-to-participant ratio:
1 coach per 10 participants, ensuring individual attention and a safe learning environment.

Cost & Commitment

  • $280 per term (10 weeks)

  • Includes:

    • Weekly coached sessions

    • Exclusive use of relevant section of the gym for coaching session

    • Unlimited gym entry during the term

    • Shoe hire & chalk

    • A supportive, inclusive environment focused on skill development and enjoyment

Payment options:

  • Upfront payment required

    • Payment plans available by request

  • Families with 2 or more children participating will be eligible for a 10% family discount

Commitment:
Youth Squad is a full-term (10-week) commitment to support consistency, progression, and group development.

Competitions & Pathways

For 2026, Youth Squad will focus on skill development, confidence, and enjoyment.

There is no competition requirement, and no competitive pathway is expected through the 2026 program.

Any future opportunities will be optional and communicated clearly with families.

Safety, Behaviour & Expectations

  • A standard Buffalo Boulders waiver is required for all participants

  • Participants are expected to:

    • Follow gym rules

    • Listen to and respect coaching instructions

  • Parents are welcome to:

    • Stay and supervise during the session, or

    • Leave children for the 45-minute session

  • Once the session ends, parents are responsible for supervising their children

  • A medical information form as part of the registration form
